Index of Past Group Walks & Trails: By Place from Cape Town - Western Cape South Africa

A reminder for those who have not been on these Soulful Nature Walks before, the walks are intended to be of such a nature that we are able to slow down and through our senses, experience some of the wonders that nature has to offer. The slowing down creates an opportunity for re-connection within. Not to mention seeing some of Cape Town's magical spots.

Location and Description of this walk

This walk will be suitable for most levels of fitness, but some minimum fitness is required.

For this walk we will be doing the Houw Hoek Hiking Trail located on the Houw Hoek Pass close to Elgin just off the N2. The trail starts at the Houw Hoek Inn - http://houwhoekinn.co.za and is situated just 80km from Cape Town. The Houw Hoek trail is a circular moderate trail through fynbos on the slopes of the Houwhoek Mountain slopes. On the way, there are great views over the pass, the valley below, spectacular forest views and the wheat fields in the distance.

The estimated time of the walk end will be at 5pm. If we finish a bit earlier  we will stop  for tea or coffee at the  Peregrine Farm Stall on the way back, but do make sure you bring along your own coffee or tea for along the trail.

You are invited to join us for a walk that will be suitable for most levels of fitness, but some minimum level of fitness is required due the duration, however the pace will not be hurried. If you are not sure of your fitness or have not been before, please call me. Extra time is allocated to the breaks. Most of this trail will be along a jeep track, but there will be some hilly parts in places

==> WHAT TO BRING ALONG & SAFETY GUIDELINES

*These requirements are for all walks if you wish to join, as individual safety affects the whole group*

@ -- Most important - proper footwear.  This being comfortable walking shoes (hiking boots for ankle support) or a good pair of running shoes. Please no crocs or sandals and do not come on a walk without any shoes or bare feet. You need to have a decent grip on the trail, as your safety affects the whole group. Also bring along a black bag to sit on in winter to keep your pants dry, if the grass or rocks are wet.
@ -- Bring along something to eat for the tea break and lunch, trail snacks / fresh fruit, juice or flask for tea / coffee or cup a soup in winter. Sunblock very important and don’t forget your water, this should be at least 2 litres and more if it is a hot day. En route you should be drinking at least 1 full cup every 60min.
@ -- What to wear on the hike. Comfortable hiking clothes (trousers / shorts). In winter long pants are preferable due to the change of temperatures. Jersey or fleecy top. As the weather often heats up during the day, it is good to wear clothes that you can layer on or off. Pack extra, thinner tops as gusty wind can cause the temperature to change quite dramatically. Remember a warm hiker is a happy hiker ;-). In summer a peak cap for the sun, in a winter beanie or buff and gloves just in case and very important a rain coat no matter the weather conditions, as this also acts as a wind breaker.
@ -- A backpack (or daypack) to carry your supplies. A backpack with a hip belt is ideal; it allows the strong bones of your pelvis to support the pack's weight, easing the load on your shoulders.
@ -- As this is a group walk, stay with the group and for the entire duration of the hike. We depart and arrived back as a group, this is non-negotiable, as anyone leaving early affects the whole group.

***Please note that no dogs are allowed on any of the walks that are on offer.”

Normally 2 hours of the time allocated is set aside for breaks. This time out offers a great way to meet and connect with like-minded people who share similar interests

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

==> LEVEL OF FITNESS

@ -- This walk is suitable for most levels of fitness, but some minimum fitness is required.
@ -- If you have any doubts about the type of walk or pace in terms of fitness level, please call me and I can advise accordingly.
@@@ -- In general, the walks on offer are at a slower pace than most of the other walking groups.   I cater extra time for allocated  breaks along the way.

As a reminder.
It is always best to be pro-active with regards to safety. If possible only walk in organized groups. One of my main priorities is safety and in the three years of organizing these walks, we have not had any such unpleasant experiences. We are determined not to be put off from exploring the wonderful, heavenly piece of heritage which we have in Table Mountain.

Being within powerful nature landscapes slows down one's pace to smell the flowers along the way and take in the breathtaking scenery, regenerating our energy for life with its unpredictable turns. It also dilutes extreme individualism and its inevitable aloneness. Being out in nature for longer periods can be about a journey to a place where disordered,  uncontrolled life can have expression because it is held. Nature can hold you in balance; in its tranquillity and harmony of beingness.

Please do let me know if you will be coming along on our little adventure. If possible send a contact number, as the weather in Cape Town can be quite unpredictable. It also good to bring along a warm jersey and waterproof light raincoat if possible.

If you need further directions, do email me for more info. Please do let me know if you will coming along on our little adventure. If possible send a contact number, as the weather in winter can be quite unpredictable.  As word of note weather can be quite unpredictable and winds can make the mountain quite chilly. It also good to bring along a warm jersey and waterproof light rain coat if possible.

A reminder for those who are new to the listing: I will organise longer hikes and weekends away on a more regular basis (every month). Cape Nature certainly has a lot to offer. Click Here For Future Calendar Dates, more info about these walks and Tariffs
Wherever possible the lunchbreaks have been extended to 45-60mins offering everyone a chance to chill out and connect with others or find a quiet spot to meditate. Remember that even if it rains in the early hours of the morning before it gets light, there is a good chance that the weather will clear up, which has been the case for many Sundays.

SOME BENEFITS OF BEING OUT IN NATURE REGULARLY INCLUDE:
Nature is perceived as sacred and inspiring / A sense of oneness and unity is evoked in encounters with nature / A sense of simplicity and feelings of peace and serenity / Surrendering and lessened need for control / Energetic, Emotional, physical, and spiritual needs are fulfilled / A desire to reciprocate is evoked, a caring for and enrichment of nature / Through connectedness and harmony, we may be inspired /
